Poverty Awareness

[UPDATED] In January of 2005, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) launched a national awareness campaign to focus attention on the millions of people in America living in poverty. The CCHD chose January to coincide with National Poverty Awareness Month in America. While you can use this resource any time of year, we encourage you to use it in January to align with National Poverty in America Awareness Month. In November of 2025, these resources were updated to include teachings from Pope Leo XIV's Dilexi Te.

To give adult participants a greater awareness of their call as disciples of Jesus Christ to help the poor, to make participants more aware of the gifts which the poor can bring to them, and to encourage participants to make others aware of poverty and motivate them to do something to end it.
